UPNG CORE Supports SEAP Annual General Meeting

UPNG CORE understands the critical role of the private sector in developing the new sustainable energy sector in PNG and since 2017 has been supporting the creation of the Solar Energy Association of PNG which will hold its inaugural AGM here at UPNG thanks to support of CORE. Details below about the event

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Port Moresby: 29 October 2018

Access to reliable, affordable, clean and a safe supply of electricity is a basic human right. It supports access to quality healthcare and education services, clean water and good communication services to name a few.  In PNG, less than 20% of its population has access to electricity despite its excellent renewable and solar energy resources.

The Solar Energy Association of Papua New Guinea (SEAP) is a registered not-for-profit organisation whose objectives and purposes are to:

  1. Promote the use of Solar Energy in Papua New Guinea
  2. To Create a group that represents the interests of the Solar Energy Industry
  3. To Maintain the highest standards of Industry practices
  4. To Aid in the Electrification of Off Grid Areas
  5. To Provide representation for the Industry in policy development
  6. To support training and education opportunities

Supported by the Pacific Community’s Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and the UPNG Centre of Renewable Energy the Annual General Meeting of the SEAP will be held at Port Moresby on 29 October 2018 at UPNG New Lecture Hall starting at 8am and finishing at 5pm. The AGM will be followed by a 4-day SEIDP Guideline Workshop on Grid-connected and Off-grid PV systems managed by SEAIPI/PPA and coordinated by PNG Power in PNG.

Agenda of the AGM will include:

  1. Importance of SEAP
  2. Challenges and Opportunities of Solar Energy Companies
  3. Current Solar Energy Activities in PNG
